DJ Seanie-M (Sean Morris) originally hails from the Ontario region of Canada and now resides in County Offaly in Ireland. His DJ career spans over 15 years and in that time he has gigged at various venues around Ireland and held residencies at The Viper Room (Dublin), The Core (Tullamore), Club Le Louvre (Mullingar) and Rapture (Enfield). He is currently a broadcaster on Midlands 103 where he presents one of the region's most listened-to night time shows, Last Orders.
Way Back When
The alias Seanie-M, while being closely related to his own name, was originally penned as a comical homage to the 70's pop band Boney-M of which Seanie is a fan (thanks to his dad's large vinyl collection). Eventually the monicker stuck.
Like many DJs, he kick-started his career performing gigs at weddings and parties. His first professional opportunity came along in 1996 while he was studying at Maynooth University, where he was asked to cover a few gigs in The Pull Pit - the Student Union venue. His talent was recognised from early on and he soon became a regular feature, remaining as their resident DJ for 4 years, a reign unsurpassed in the university, playing alongside big name acts like Aslan, Blink, Paddy Casey, The Saw Doctors, Jerry Fish, The Stunning, The Four of Us and many more.
During this time, and for some years later, Seanie continued gigging the wedding and party scene. He not only felt it was a great way to gain experience in playing music to a wide variety of tastes but also a great way to develop a personality behind the mic, a skill that became very useful as his career progressed. He would strongly advise this to any budding DJs who are interested in pursuing a professional DJ career.
Some Big Breaks
By the turn of the Millenium, Seanie had garnered more exposure, and travelled around Ireland to concentrate more on the club gig scene. He gained popularity by producing a number of mixes for distribution among clubs in the region, which in turned earned him more gigs. Read more about this here.
On the Airwaves
With the club gigs going strong, Seanie still had one more dream to fulfill: to rock the airwaves. He volunteered as co-presenter of Whacky Saturday on CKR FM from 2001 until the station's closure in 2004. He has also presented shows on the online streaming station Ice Radio in 2005/06 with fellow broadcasters around Ireland and the UK.
But it was in 2007 when opportunity knocked again as he entered Midlands 103's "Radio Idol" competition, on which would-be presenters would send in a demo to be in with a chance to present their own show for a month. Seanie was selected as the winner over numerous entries and after presenting his own show for a month as Radio Idol Winner, was offered the slot on a permanent basis. You can catch him every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night from 10pm to Midnight on Midlands 103. Read more about Last Orders here. |
